Stakeholders can respond to revised requirements until 23 December
PEFC International has launched a public consultation on the updated standard for project certification. The aim is to ensure that the use of timber and other material flows from responsibly managed forests fits better with today's construction practice. The consultation runs until 23 December 2025.
The revision introduces the PEFC Project Certificate, a more practical and clearer framework that reflects how construction and design projects are currently organised. The new standard is intended to provide full traceability throughout the supply chain, even when contractors themselves are not certified. It also includes consistent definitions and simpler procedures. The approach aligns more closely with existing sustainability frameworks such as BREEAM and LEED.
Applicable to a wide range of projects
Since its first use in 2008 — including at the London Olympic Games and the restoration of Notre-Dame — project certification has been applied in a variety of construction and area development projects. With the new standard, PEFC aims to further expand its use, from housing construction to bridges, parks and public artworks.

Webinar on 1 December
PEFC will host a webinar on 1 December from 15:00 to 16:00 for organisations and companies about the functioning of the new standard. A separate session for certification bodies will take place on 15 December from 10:00 to 16:00.
Feedback requested
PEFC invites construction professionals, consultants and other stakeholders to share their comments. The input will be used for the final approval of the standard during the General Assembly of PEFC International. Through this form, interested parties can access the draft texts and submit their feedback.
