Extra funding for practice-oriented training
The Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment is making €7.2 million available for training programmes in the green sector. The funding comes from the SLIM Training Collectives scheme. SLIM stands for "Stimuleringsregeling Leren en Ontwikkelen in het mkb" (Incentive Scheme for Learning and Development in SMEs) and is intended to strengthen training in sectors facing staff shortages.

The subsidy was awarded on the basis of a joint application by several sector organisations, including Cumela. The funding enables employers to train employees who do not yet have the required qualifications. Many companies in the green sector hire people who learn the trade mainly through practice. The scheme is intended to help train these employees more quickly and in a more targeted way.

For municipalities and green contractors, the scheme can contribute to a more stable labour market: by training employees better, knowledge is retained and deployability increases.

Focus on learning in the workplace
The training programmes align with existing sectoral development pathways in, among others, agriculture and horticulture, greenhouse horticulture and green space management. The emphasis is on practice-oriented learning, recognising skills and development in the workplace. This should make it easier for employers to invest in their staff.
Also relevant for municipalities and contractors
For municipalities and green contractors, the scheme can contribute to a more stable labour market. By training employees better, knowledge is retained and deployability increases. This is important in a sector that has been facing a shortage of skilled workers for some time.
