DONAR Groen has introduced a biodegradable trimmer line that is not only more environmentally friendly than conventional nylon line, but also the first of its kind to be TÜV tested and certified. The new trimmer line is marketed under DONAR's own brand and is available in multiple diameters: 2.4 mm, 2.7 mm, and 3.0 mm. The line is designed for use with a specially developed trimmer head that extends the product's lifespan.

Without this trimmer head, the line cannot be used—according to DONAR, this is due to the specific material properties of the biodegradable polymer.

An Alternative to Nylon

Traditional trimmer line is almost always made of nylon and contributes to the spread of microplastics in the environment. What sets this biodegradable version apart is its certification by TÜV, an independent inspection body that, among other things, assesses the biodegradability of materials. This official recognition could be especially relevant for professional users in municipal green maintenance, nature management, or recreational park services where tenders or sustainability criteria apply.

Special System

The trimmer line has been designed for use with a dedicated trimmer head, also developed by DONAR. This head optimises line consumption and contributes to a longer service life. As a result, users are expected to consume less line overall, which in addition to environmental benefits may also lead to cost savings. According to owner Ralph van der Hulst, the biodegradable trimmer line will soon be widely available from stock.

More information about this new trimmer line can be found in edition 4 of Stad+Groen.
