Round table by PEFC and Boomzorg: how can harvesting wood from the city become more practical and better applicable?
On January 20, trade magazine Boomzorg and PEFC Netherlands are organizing a round table on a topic that affects many municipalities: 'harvesting wood from the city'. What happens to the wood that becomes available through the management of urban trees? Part of it currently goes to biomass. That can be a logical and useful destination. But wood is also suitable for other applications.

The Netherlands has set ambitious goals in the field of circularity. By 2050, the economy must be fully circular. By 2030, the economy should be 50% circular. Especially for the green sector, this is a major challenge. Urban wood, meaning wood released through the management of city trees, can also become part of this circular economy.
Zwolle as the first practical example
Zwolle was, for example, the first municipality to start working with the PEFC certificate 'Trees outside forests'. Which sizes and qualities are usable and available, and how do you achieve a constant flow that is interesting for sawmills? In many municipalities, urban wood companies are also active that locally process part of the released wood.

The meeting focuses on the possibilities that urban wood offers: from biomass to high-value use.

Link with municipal objectives
Based on a number of propositions, we will discuss the challenges of this market under the guidance of moderator Hein van Iersel. To give the discussion some direction and context, four experts have been invited to open the meeting with an ultra-short pitch of a maximum of five minutes.
