Growers, managers and authorities must work together
On September 16, the Green Measures Roadmap was launched as part of the National Bee Strategy. This roadmap aims to accelerate and coordinate actions to improve pollinator habitats in the Netherlands. It has been developed for everyone involved with green spaces — from growers and landscapers to governments, research institutes and nature organizations.

The number of pollinators in the Netherlands continues to decline, both in population and in species diversity. A key reason is the loss of habitat, which reduces food sources and nesting and breeding sites. The mission of the roadmap is clear: more ecological green spaces with pollinator-friendly design and management. By 2035, 75 percent of green areas should provide suitable habitats, and 36 percent of paved areas should be greened.

Routes toward practical solutions
 | | Supply: more ecological seeds and plant material, quality labels, public campaigns and knowledge sharing.
| | | Choice and implementation: support for greening public and private spaces with tools, maps and practical examples.
| | | Management: maintenance that takes biodiversity into account, with clear guidelines and ecological advice — for instance, management in line with the Kleurkeur label (Groenkeur and The Butterfly Foundation).
| | | A fourth, overarching route aims to structure cooperation between all involved parties and make progress visible.

Collaboration like a beehive
Just like in a beehive, every party has its role — from implementers to innovators. The roadmap is intended to strengthen existing initiatives and spark new actions. The ultimate goal: a network of pollinator-friendly areas throughout the Netherlands. The full Green Measures Roadmap can be downloaded from the website(https://www.nationalebijenstrategie.nl/documenten/rapporten/2025/09/15/routekaart-groene-maatregelen]website[/LINK)] of the National Bee Strategy.
