Online ordering, expanding assortment and serving customers optimally

Wilbert Stek presents a renewed website during GrootGroenPlus with a completely updated corporate identity and additional functionalities. The most important addition is that customers can now easily place orders online. In this way, the cutting specialist responds to convenience and service, alongside further expansion of the assortment and a focus on international growth.

More stock

Wilbert van Luenen, owner of Wilbert Stek: 'Our customers can place all their orders through our website. They don't need to create a special account or log in. The grower only has to go to the order page, where our current stock is shown in an overview. Our aim is to keep more stock than in recent years. We want to make it as easy as possible for our customers. In addition to the existing, regular customers who order annually, new customers, both domestic and international, can also use the website. But the majority consists of our current clientele, half of which are Dutch growers; the other half is export. Our assortment is actually divided into western, southern and eastern Europe.'
The new online ordering option not only makes things easier for the customer, but also for the Wilbert Stek team. 'Previously, orders were placed by email or telephone. There was also an order function on the website, but it did not work efficiently. For us, it is also more effective in handling and administration.'

Assortment in motion

The assortment at Wilbert Stek is always in motion. Van Luenen: 'We have expanded the Magnolia range, which is truly an asset to our offer. The new Magnolia varieties will not yet be displayed at the stand, but they are a novelty for the new season.' The cutting specialist is happy to point out the varieties that are currently popular. 'We are talking about Photinia varieties, which are very much in demand, such as 'Carré Rouge', 'Red Robin', 'Little Fenna' and 'Magical Volcano'. Osmanthus burkwoodii and Euonymus 'Green Spire' are also popular with my customers. We deliver these varieties with very high quality. For this reason, we build up sufficient stock so that we can serve the customer well with these varieties.'

'For the popular varieties we build up sufficient stock so that we can serve the customer well with them'

Wilbert Stek responds in time to the new desirable varieties. 'We do this carefully, not like a headless chicken. The most important thing is that we can serve all our customers. Every year we try to optimize the assortment and achieve some market expansion. Then we look for crops that fit, both from a cultivation perspective and in view of customer interest. We keep a close eye on the market, with the help of our customers. We know what is happening and which products generate turnover. Usually we start with one or two types and then expand further,' explains Wilbert van Luenen.

Wide assortment of cuttings

Each variety requires its own approach, says the grower from Gendt. 'Especially the timing of cutting is important. What works for another does not necessarily work for us. Blindly copying is not wise; it has to fit into your own cultivation system. Sometimes saying "no" is good; then you know that's not where your strength lies.'
Innovation plays an important role at Wilbert Stek. 'Trying new varieties makes the work enjoyable. If you always continue on the existing path, the fun quickly disappears. Things change quickly in the nursery; often supply and demand determine what continues to grow.'
In Zundert, the company presents a wide assortment of cuttings, including Thuja, Taxus, Photinia, Ilex, Osmanthus and Euonymus. 'It is mainly about giving a general impression of the quality you produce. For new customers it is nice to see something concrete.'

The new order form

Customer relations

Van Luenen looks forward to GrootGroenPlus with confidence. 'It is always a good fair for us. We meet regular customers and make new contacts, especially for export. GrootGroenPlus is becoming increasingly international, and that is a real added value.'
The cutting specialist appreciates the combination of customer relations and new leads. 'It is always quite an organization to participate, but you speak to many people and make new contacts. Cooperation with the organization is also pleasant; everyone thinks in terms of solutions. All in all, a great fair for us.'
