At the TurfTech trade fair in Basel on September 1 and 2, we came across a compact machine that could be particularly interesting for sports field management: the Campey Seed Shot. We asked Henk Slootweg of AH Vrij to give us a short demonstration of the device.

Overseeding hybrid sports fields remains a challenge. Especially when damage is caused by sliding, it is difficult to repair grass spots properly and quickly. The Campey Seed Shot provides a solution here. The device makes 19 small holes in the top layer each time, places a small amount of perennial ryegrass seed in each hole, and then presses the holes closed. According to Slootweg, around ten Seed Shots are already in use in the Netherlands, mainly at professional football organizations. There, they are used to efficiently repair damaged areas on stadium fields. The machine sows precise quantities at a depth of about 4 to 5 millimeters, which optimizes the germination capacity of the seed. The machine is available from Heybroek.
Watch our video to see how the Seed Shot works and how Henk Slootweg explains its application.
