Field management gets a smart upgrade. As of 15 May 2025, SGL has acquired the product fLEX Standard Solutions: a measurement device that precisely shows how a turf performs and how safe it is for players. With this, SGL expands its offering and now also provides insight into how the field truly responds to use—not just how well the grass grows.
What exactly does fLEX do?
The fLEX device simulates a football player using a shoe with built-in sensors. It measures how the field responds to each step, how much stress it places on the player, and how the turf behaves under intense use. Useful for ground managers, who can use this data to check whether the surface is safe and playable.
A scientific foundation
fLEX was developed in collaboration with the University of Tennessee, where it underwent extensive testing. The results provide reliable data used by sports teams and field managers around the world. In the coming months, SGL will integrate fLEX into its existing systems, making all data accessible on a single platform. In addition, the company is working on smart applications using artificial intelligence to enable predictions about how the field will behave under specific conditions.
