A forest on the ring road as a gift
On 21 June, Amsterdam celebrates its 750th anniversary. To mark this milestone, a unique Birthday Forest will appear for one day on the A10 ring road. Among the trees, Amsterdam residents can find inspiration and take a moment to breathe, right in the middle of what is normally a busy traffic route. This temporary forest includes 750 large and 7,500 small trees, which will later be given a permanent place in and around the city. Ebben Tree Nursery supplies the trees.
The Birthday Forest is not just a festive installation, but also a sustainable gift. The trees provide clean air, cooling, biodiversity, and a bit of happiness in the city. After the event, they will be permanently planted in Amsterdam and the Metropolitan Region. In addition, another 75,000 trees will be planted — a step towards a greener future.

programme and collaboration
The forest is being designed by landscape artist Bruno Doedens, known for Bosk in Leeuwarden. That was one of the largest cultural projects of Arcadia: a walking forest of more than a thousand trees that moved through the city centre of Leeuwarden from 7 May to 14 August 2022.
During the event in Amsterdam, Pakhuis de Zwijger will host a programme full of performances, walks, and talks about the green city of the future.
a lasting green gesture
The Birthday Forest not only marks Amsterdam's anniversary, but also kicks off an ambitious plan: more green for the city and for future generations.
partners
Companies and organisations can sponsor the Birthday Forest and help create a greener Amsterdam. Initiators such as Trees for All, De Gezonde Stad and the City of Amsterdam are working together on this project. Several companies already support the initiative, including a.s.r. real estate, BPD and Green Business Club Zuidas.
