The European Plant Support (EPS) Foundation has awarded financial contributions in its third funding round to three initiatives aimed at promoting sales, sustainability, innovation, and knowledge sharing within the tree nursery sector.
As in previous rounds, a careful evaluation was made to determine which projects best aligned with EPS's mission to stimulate innovations that help make the sector future-proof. The results will be presented at the GrootGroenPlus 2025 trade fair.
Certification of Miscanthus as a Sustainable Substrate Raw Material
Miscanthus-Agri submitted a project aimed at certifying Miscanthus as an RHP-certified substrate material. This would enable farmers to contribute a renewable raw material through a new crop, substrate producers to use locally grown inputs, and tree nurseries to more easily transition to peat-free substrates. Garden Centre Event at GrootGroenPlus 2025
Following the successful focus on retail in 2024, EPS will support the organization of a special event for garden centres from the Netherlands and Belgium during the tree nursery trade fair. This half-day program will include a seminar centered on sustainability. A notable addition is the Green Climate Square for garden centres, highlighting the themes of Green Roofs, Water in the Garden, Remove Paving - What to Add?, and The Living Garden. This initiative is already active in the Netherlands and is currently being rolled out in Belgium. The goal is to bring together garden centres, governments, and nature organizations on the Friday of the fair to promote sustainable garden design. The event is primarily aimed at Dutch and Belgian audiences but will be accessible to international guests via headsets. Various media partners will contribute to the event.
Targeted Content Creation and Information via GGP.News
To better inform the tree nursery sector and enhance its visibility, EPS is investing in high-quality content creation for GGP.News. This platform will provide up-to-date information throughout the year to and about GrootGroenPlus exhibitors, visitors, and decision-makers in the sector. In doing so, GGP will become even more relevant internationally and well-positioned as the leading network platform for the tree nursery industry. This project focuses on reaching (international) nurseries, traders, garden centres, government bodies, related sectors, potential exhibitors and visitors, as well as decision-makers in sectors that would benefit from participating in or visiting GGP, and media and industry organizations that can further distribute the content.
