no gasoline, but plenty of power: EGO introduces cordless earth auger for professional use
it had already been announced: the launch of the EGO earth auger PHA7400E. this machine is now readily available from stock.
with the introduction of the PHA7400E, EGO enters the market for battery-powered earth augers, a segment where Makita was previously active. while Makita opted for an auger based on a universal platform, EGO has developed an auger that really looks like an earth auger. with this, the brand further expands its range of cordless tools for professional use.
56V
the PHA7400E runs on EGO's well-known 56V ARC lithium batteries and delivers a torque of 74 Nm. the machine is by default compatible with an EGO auger bit with a shaft diameter of 22 mm and a drilling diameter of 20 cm. with an adapter, the machine can also be made suitable for other brands of augers. the cordless auger is suitable for a wide range of applications, such as installing fence posts and planting trees or shrubs.
maintenance
interest in cordless tools in the green sector continues to grow, thanks in part to zero emissions, lower noise levels, and less maintenance compared to gasoline-powered variants. according to the manufacturer, the EGO earth auger is lighter than traditional gasoline models. the body, at just over 10 kilos, is however a few kilos heavier than Makita's auger. this was not really an issue during the practical test carried out by Vakblad De Hovenier. the machine works smoothly and quickly. with the capacity of perhaps a quarter of a single 10Ah battery, we were able to drill 100 holes, each 50 cm deep and 20 cm in diameter, without any problems. that is impressively efficient. the machine features two forward drilling speed settings, one reverse setting, and a variable speed trigger for controlled operation. a quick coupling makes changing auger bits easy. for safety, the PHA7400E is equipped with an anti-kickback system and ergonomically shaped handles. the balance of the device is optimized for use under a variety of conditions.
costs
the bare unit is available for €359. those who choose a kit with a 5Ah battery and fast charger pay €649. the auger bit is available separately for €109. there is also a 50 cm extension available. with the adapter, other auger bits can also be used.
