True enthusiasts through and through
Quadwinkel recently became a partner of NWST. The editorial team of De Hovenier visited Barneveld for an introductory meeting. What immediately stands out in the showroom is the huge variety of types and brands of quads and side-by-side vehicles—and a massive, solid wood communal table.
Lub Mulder and Riëtte Jochemsen |
At that wooden table, co-owner Riëtte Jochemsen and salesman Lub Mulder welcome me. The business—the largest in the niche market of quads, side-by-sides, and UTVs—started 23 years ago. Meo and Riëtte Jochemsen took over the company entirely in early 2024. Lub Mulder is a seasoned salesperson through and through, passionate about his work; he has been working here for three years. >>>> Editor's note: video of salesman Lub Mulder about Quadwinkel <<<< As previously mentioned in this magazine, more and more people are discovering the unmatched capabilities of quads, gators, and side-by-sides. And thanks to the growing range of accessories, the possibilities continue to expand. Quadwinkel, now also a dealer of flail and finishing mower brand Wessex, demonstrates this clearly.

"Our company operates with a no-nonsense culture," says Riëtte Jochemsen. "We try to have our customers tell our story. We see them as ambassadors who share their experiences with the machines, tools, and our company. With our team of 20 employees, we aim to be an approachable, flat organization. Our massive table symbolizes that. During lunch and breaks, everyone gathers here, and on Friday afternoons we bring in snacks."

"We all do the work together here"

Mulder adds: "This table is a key part of our company culture. Important conversations happen here, right in the middle of our product lineup. Everyone is welcome at this table. Whether they walk in wearing boots or a business suit, they always get a cup of coffee. This is where we exchange information—because we do the work together." My attention then shifts to the strategically positioned experience center, which includes clothing, helmets, and a shop with various accessories. So you'll find everything for these vehicles under one roof. It's even possible to equip a quad with a spraying system including a boom as an accessory.
mostly listening
How does Mulder—who prefers being called "Lub"—see his role as a salesperson? "I used to sell in the construction industry. What I love about Quadwinkel is the combination of so many products and the wide variety of customers: from farmers, provinces, and municipalities to horse owners, landscapers, and even the military. My motto is: the right machine must go to the right owner. I mostly listen to customers to understand how they want to use a machine and its tools. We start with offering a number of reliable A-brands, such as Yamaha, Can-Am, and Polaris. We also supply machines from high-quality B-brands. Everything is delivered customer-specific and ready to use, complete with chosen and installed accessories." The possibilities are broad. First and foremost: large, wide tires to protect the soil, a big cargo bed, chainsaw holders, a lift system, a trailer hitch, accessories for attaching a (Wessex) mower, and even leaf vacuums and blowers. And of course, all with suitable power. A short-term doubling of the company size is unlikely, says Jochemsen: "Unless entirely new markets emerge within this segment. For instance, we now supply machines to the military, wildlife management units, security services, rescue brigades, and holiday parks. Arable farmers are also beginning to discover the advantages of such small, maneuverable machines. Naturally, private owners and professional racers are also an important target group."
parts specialist
Quadwinkel also focuses on supplying parts for all those different machines. This provides full-time daily work for two warehouse employees. Mulder: "Online, we can quickly deliver the ordered parts directly from stock. These are the standard parts—not just the fast movers. That certainly brings challenges, so we have extensive consultations with various manufacturers." Of course, Quadwinkel also performs major maintenance on delivered machines if desired. For this, the company operates its own pick-up and delivery service. "The drivers running this service are familiar with the customers," says Mulder. "Our customers can rely on receiving their vehicles, with accessories installed, in full working and tested condition. If something breaks and can't be repaired on-site, we bring the machine back to Barneveld."
events
Jochemsen: "Among our customers are those who join us for off-road days in Germany or pleasure rides in France, or who participate in rallies in places like Poland and Morocco. We support and take care of them on-site, both domestically and abroad, with our service truck. Our off-road service team is always ready to quickly repair damage so that customers can keep driving. Quadwinkel uses some of these events to introduce potential customers to the world of quad driving. Riding a quad through untamed nature and pushing your machine to the limit is a truly unique experience. Anyone interested can register with us."
rentals
In the showroom and on the outdoor lot, you'll find many powerful and functional quads, side-by-sides, and gators. When it comes to quads alone, there are eleven brands! These include vehicles that can be outfitted with game racks, winches, and hoists, allowing you to move animals, logs, or other heavy objects with ease. The 4WDs are delivered with a tow bar for pulling the heaviest trailers. Mulder: "We don't just sell them here in Barneveld—we also rent them out from this location. The rental fleet is growing. These vehicles can be used for (large) events, projects, and other tasks."

battery-powered
Naturally, I want to know which brand is the best in this segment. Mulder answers confidently: "We offer everything in this niche market—from basic to fully equipped, in all shapes and extremely robust. Can-Am has a great product line; in my opinion, it's the most innovative and frequently releases new accessories. Polaris is also a strong player. This brand has a long and reliable history in off-road vehicles. We've been supplying their fossil-fuel-powered Rangers for quite some time. Quadwinkel was one of the first in the Netherlands to offer electric ATVs and SSVs."
 | The Polaris Kinetic |
|
|
Mulder: "We now also offer two types of electric Polaris Kinetics, with a cargo bed and a range of 70 or 130 km on a single charge. Accessories from the traditional Rangers also fit the Kinetic. At Quadwinkel, we see great potential for battery-powered vehicles in companies, institutions, conservation areas, (sports) facilities, and of course golf courses. With a Polaris Kinetic, you can even chauffeur guests around rough terrain like real VIPs. Our marketing department already calls it 'the Tesla of the gators'!"
